Those who truly want something will find a way, everyone else will find an excuse!

I’ve repeated this quote from the opening of this short article so many times before that I’m becoming a bit boring to myself, but I will continue to repeat it because, despite all the justifications and stories we sometimes tell ourselves, it is honest and entirely true in its application.

There are days, like today, when there is no other option but to dig deep into the reservoir of one’s willpower and extract the maximum of what is in front of us. What did that mean for me today? Well, as you can see, the ‘morning’ workout while everything around me was still in darkness. Of course it’s a situation far from ideal, a situation I neither prefer nor would advise to anyone, but when there’s no other option, and more importantly, when you know what and why you’re doing, even that is not a problem. After all, waiting for some perfect, ideal moment for anything in life is pointless, and the only thing it often leads to is more waiting.

Working hours 7-13, departure for Zagreb at 14:20, arrival around 18:15, concert at 8 pm. When all that went through my mind, the situation was clear, and the only option for training was to do it before work. I woke up at 5 am, quickly got ready, and headed to Matkino, without any second thoughts or complaints. After the decision was made last night, that was it. And yes, absolutely nothing would have happened to me if I had stayed in bed for another hour this morning and skipped that workout. I would have continued tomorrow where I left off (somewhere around 9 pm, after returning from Zagreb and completing the mid-shift), and that one missed workout, in the long run and with the broader picture in mind, would not have represented a significant loss, neither in strength nor in continuity. But. Life is based on decisions. And when you make decisions that are closely related to your identity, you know that something like making excuses and taking the “easier” path is not in line with how you live, function, and what you want to convey to others, so, accordingly, it is out of the question.

In conclusion, as was the case with the previous two posts from the ‘self-discipline’ series of articles, I’m not writing this to gain anyone’s admiration, praise, or accumulate a certain number of likes; I transcended that thinking like ten years ago. Of course, I am always grateful and humble when that happens, but the primary intention and sincere desire of this text are to motivate someone among you and encourage positive life change, whether in fitness or another area of your life. Those who know me a bit better know that I mean what I say and say what I mean, so it’s not an exaggeration with the undertone of ‘you don’t know what you’re talking about’ when I say that nothing that awaits me in the future will slow me down in terms of what I have conceived and planned for training and fitness in general, be it one or two children for whom I will sleep four hours a day or two jobs, as is the current situation, etc. Nothing that I can influence, of course, but let’s not digress into diseases and negative thoughts now. So, since everything must always start with ourselves, talk freely with yourself, figure out what you want, find your ‘why’, and if it turns out that this ‘something’ is related to fitness, we at SpartanFit are always at your disposal, and it will be our honor and pleasure to follow you on your journey and the realization of your vision, whatever it might entail. The effect that physical change produces is much more than just ‘looking good’ and extends to everything you do, your mental mindset, your energy level, and believe me, it is quite noticeable to the people around you, so more people than just yourself will be grateful and proud because you made that decision. But, of course, you won’t know unless you try, or as Morpheus would say, ‘I can only show you the door, you have to walk through it yourself.’
